The first and only time I met my Uncle John was when I was two. According to family stories, he is a math prodigy, but he has lived “off the grid” for most of his adult life. For this project, I traveled to rural Missouri to find my Uncle John, who at the time was building a cabin in the hills on the outskirts of Hallsville. While visiting, I noticed an intimate connection between John and the land he was building his home on. This series documents the relationship between person and setting, and how the objects in our lives — a raft, a plate — can embody our spirit.
